Meaning of Magic

"Magic" is a term that refers to the art of producing illusions or supernatural effects using tricks, spells, or other techniques.

Magic can also be seen as a way of accessing hidden knowledge or powers or connecting with the spiritual or supernatural realm.

Meaning of Magick

"Magick," is a term often used to refer to a more spiritual or metaphysical form of magic. It’s about using the power of our minds to manipulate unseen forces or energies to bring about desired changes in the world.

Magick may involve the use of ritual, symbolism, and other techniques to harness and direct these energies, and is often seen as a way of aligning oneself with the natural rhythms and patterns of the universe.

Many modern-day witches and practitioners of the occult feel that the word "magic" has been co-opted and commercialized by mainstream culture and that it does not accurately reflect the depth and complexity of their practices. By using the word "magick," practitioners emphasize the spiritual and metaphysical aspects of their work.

Where did that “K” Come From?

Aleister Crowley, one of the most famous occultists of all time, is credited with first using the “k” in magick in Thelema, the religion he founded. He did this to differentiate between the magic that he was talking about and the magic that was being used by illusionists and stage performers.

Crowley believed that true magick was a powerful tool that could be used for good or evil purposes and felt that it was important to acknowledge the importance of this type of work and to take it seriously.

When we spell magic with a “k”, we are acknowledging that this type of work is not just some simple trick or illusion. It’s something that requires true focus and dedication. It’s a way to tap into the power of the universe and use it for our purposes.
